Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 1:00 PM - 6:30 PM (GMT)
Over 100 cupcake fanatics are expected to attend the first CupcakeCamp in Belfast on Saturday 15 August.
Both bakers and consumers of the most artistic, mouth watering cakes will come together for a day of baking, displaying, tip swapping, and of course devouring. Whipped into the mix is the chance to compete with their spectacular baked creations in what is going to be hot competition for prizes and baking glory.
The experts from some of the best cupcake businesses in Northern Ireland and beyond will be in attendance to display their sumptuous treats. But the event is not just for the experts. Devoted cupcake bakers will share their knowledge with the newer converts with great opportunities for informal chat and listening to short talks given by the bakers.
What is CupcakeCamp, then?
CupcakeCamp began in North America, but is fast becoming a global phenomenon from San Francisco to Sydney and Bombay. Now Belfast is poised to become the first CupcakeCamp in Europe.
CupcakeCamp is an ad-hoc get-together where participants bake and bring cupcakes to share and socialise. It's organised primarily over the internet, making use of the most modern communications to get people involved. Inspired by tech conferences like BarCamp, it flourished in its birthplace San Francisco, and has grown to take place in as many as sixteen cities in North America; the biggest to date was in Ottawa, which was attended by 1000 people.
Our very own CupcakeCamp will be taking place on the fifteenth of August at Blick Studios. There we will be joined by connoisseurs of all ages and ability in an event where participants can bring their own baking sensations to share or can just come to eat and enjoy the atmosphere.
